Major Russian Strikes Disrupt Power In Ukraine's Capital

Energy infrastructure under attack in the region
Ukraine's power facilities have come under increased strikes in the past few days

During the night, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have resulted in power cuts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were injured while local people in eastern districts were plunged into darkness and faced disruption to drinking water, according to city officials.

At the same time, a seven-year-old child was fatally injured in a distinct aerial attack in the Zaporizhzhia area in the country's south-east, according to area administrators.

Russian forces has escalated assaults on energy facilities over recent weeks, while the country's government has requested "real steps" from international partners to increase pressure on Russia.

"What's needed is not superficial actions but strong steps - from the US, European nations and the G7 - in supplying defensive weapons and applying sanctions," was stated in a public message.

He said that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and over thirty projectiles targeted the country's power systems, describing such attacks as "cynical and calculated" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as the weather cools.

Energy officials said Russia was "conducting extensive attacks" and repair crews were working to repair systems.

A barrage of missiles damaged energy infrastructure and apartment buildings in Kyiv.

Five out of the nine people wounded in the attacks on the capital have been transported for medical care, per statements from city authorities.

Regional authorities said the metropolitan region experienced heavy assaults overnight. A seven-year-old child lost their life and three other people were hurt.

The assaults follow nights of bombing campaigns in the region, portions of which remain under the control of Russian forces.

All of Ukraine is on alert for hypersonic Kinzhal missile strikes, which are more difficult to detect.

Government officials told journalists that Russia was purposely seeking to demolish the country's energy grid, with attacks already affecting energy systems.

Officials stated technical personnel and authorities were anticipating further attacks.
